Committing to Workplace Flexibility: Unlimited PTO at TBG

July 18th, 2023

Unlimited Paid Time Off (PTO) policies allow employees to take as much free time as they want as long as it does not interfere with their ability to complete their work. A recent MetLife survey found that 72% of employees are interested in unlimited PTO as a benefit and as many as 50% of US workers would even prefer it over a higher salary. Despite this, unlimited PTO is far from the norm with only 8% of companies offering this policy in the US, according to the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).

The Benefits of Unlimited PTO

Unlimited PTO has many benefits, including increased productivity, more communication, reduced pressure to come to work sick, more time to find and follow personal interests, and the list goes on.

Patrick Glynn from Insights Global added that an unlimited PTO policy even creates a more trusting professional environment. “Nothing builds trust more than knowing you can take time off without repercussion, creating a better work-life balance.”

What Unlimited PTO Looks Like at TBG

At TBG, we recognize how demanding the public accounting industry can be and that many of our employees have varying schedules and “busy seasons.” This is why we have not only implemented an unlimited PTO policy but encourage our People to truly take advantage of it.

“Unfortunately, some companies that have unlimited PTO policies don’t always have the culture in place to embrace and support it,” said Heather Rudes, Chief Human Resource Officer at TBG. “It’s one thing to say you have a perk but it’s another to implement it successfully.”

“Our Unlimited PTO Policy both reinforces the firm’s commitment to work-life balance as well as empowers our People to manage their schedules as the professionals they are. By removing the barriers and stress around tracking time off, our People have more time to pursue their passions and enjoy life outside of work,” shared Heather.

Many of our People utilize this policy to recharge after a busy period, spend time with friends and family, or explore their interests. Some even take time off to learn a new skill or work on their professional development.

Jennifer Barszcz, Staff Accountant within our Assurance Service Line, has done just that. Throughout her time at TBG, Jennifer has taken time to both pursue her passion of travelling and study for the CPA Exam.

“Work-life balance is so important to me because I like to travel and experience new things in life. The Unlimited PTO Policy here at Bonadio is so amazing because it truly allows for this!” shared Jennifer. “I’ve been able to take advantage of this perk to travel to some of my favorite places.”

She continued, “Bonadio has also been very supportive of me in preparing for the CPA Exam, especially with taking time off to study. If I even mentioned that I was studying, they’re like, ‘what weeks do you need off?’ That’s how much the company appreciates their employees.”
