The Story of Our Partnership with OLV Human Services
OLV Human Services (OLVHS), the care-giving arm of the OLV Organizations, has a rich history that dates back to the late 1800s. What began as an orphanage in Limestone Hill, a suburb of Buffalo, has expanded over the years to include a home for boys led by Father Nelson Baker, an infant home for abandoned babies, and a residential program for adolescents with emotional and behavioral problems. In 1996, the missions of Baker Hall and the Infant Home were combined.
Today, in the spirit of Father Baker, who dedicated his life to those in need, OLVHS serves approximately 12,000 people each year, striving to foster the highest possible quality of life and personal achievement through a diverse array of social, health, and human services. As one of the largest non-profits in Western New York, OLVHS provides trauma-informed educational, residential, clinical, and community-based services to thousands of individuals and families, with a strong focus on partnerships and helping those they serve achieve their full potential.
A Shared Commitment to Making a Difference
The partnership between TBG and OLVHS began in late 2015 when OLVHS faced an audit from the Office of the State Comptroller regarding its Preschool Special Education Programs. “TBG was instrumental in guiding us through the challenges of that audit,” shared Cindy Lee, CEO of OLVHS.
This partnership has since grown to encompass a wide range of services, including traditional assurance and tax engagements, IT security through FoxPointe Solutions, billing assistance through Beacon Consulting, corporate compliance project work through our affiliate, ProNexus, and more.
Terrence Phillips, Partner within TBG’s Advisory Service Line, and Melissa Slater, Principal in our Assurance Service Line, have been instrumental in facilitating this client relationship for years, helping OLVHS secure proper reimbursement for services provided in their Education and Residential Programs from NYS oversight agencies.
“We find solace and purpose in knowing that our work with OLV Human Services is making a tangible difference in the lives of at-risk children and individuals with behavioral, intellectual, and developmental disabilities. Each day, we are honored to play a part in shaping brighter futures and fostering a more inclusive and compassionate community,” shared Terry.
Additionally, Terry, Melissa, and several others at the firm have provided ongoing insights into current trends in the NYS Health and Human Service industry, helping OLVHS manage the business challenges they face on a daily basis. “Bonadio’s services have helped keep OLV Human Services on the cutting edge of practices that serve to keep the agency financially and programmatically viable,” shared Cindy.
“There are very few other CPA firms who offer the depth and breadth that Bonadio offers with their expertise in our not-for-profit arena and with understanding of the complexities of NYS rate reimbursement methodologies,” she added.
The partnership between OLV Human Services and TBG transcends business; it is a shared commitment to improving lives and communities. Together, they are dedicated to making a difference and empowering individuals to achieve their fullest potential.
