ROCHESTER, N.Y. (November 1, 2023) – The Bonadio Group has been named a Best CPA Firm for Women and a Best CPA Firm for Equity Leadership for 2023 by the Accounting MOVE Project, demonstrating the firm’s steadfast commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) efforts. The Top 50 CPA Firm, which currently boasts 43% female leadership amongst its principals and partners, was bestowed the honor by the Accounting and Financial Women’s Alliance (AFWA), an organization that annually recognizes the “career fluidity” initiatives of U.S.-based accounting firms. This year’s honor marks the firm’s 10th consecutive year as a Best CPA Firm for Women and 7th year as a Best CPA Firm for Equity Leadership.
The Bonadio Group has made significant efforts since its founding in 1978 to support the advancement of women to leadership roles. In addition to offering sustained mentorship and professional development opportunities over the years, the firm continues to exceed the industry average in the retention of female leaders advancing to partner roles.
“Our talented female leaders play a critical role in our mission To Be Greater, and we are consistently seeking new ways to elevate their voices and support their professional growth throughout each level of our business,” said Bruce Zicari, Managing Partner and CEO of The Bonadio Group. “DE&I is a major component of our approach to enhancing our overall employee experience, and we are honored to be recognized for our continued commitment to fostering equity by the AFWA.”
As reported by research firm Great Place to Work, The Bonadio Group currently maintains a 91% employee satisfaction rate, compared to the average 57% satisfaction rate at a typical U.S.-based company. This is due in part to initiatives like proactively right sizing imbalances in employee work hours, offering unlimited paid time off, and recognizing, understanding, and supporting the unique needs and aspirations of every individual within their firm.
“One of the ways we aim to sustain a culture that prioritizes inclusivity, development and belonging is by continually listening to our people and implementing action plans based on their feedback,” said Andrew Stephens, Manager of DE&I at The Bonadio Group. “Our employee satisfaction rating is a testament to this commitment to our people.”
This commitment to DE&I, company culture, and equal opportunity has been recognized by several significant national organizations in 2023, including being named a FORTUNE Best Workplace in Consulting & Professional Services and a Best Companies Group Inclusive Workplace. Most recently, it also earned spots on Energage’s 2023 lists of Top Workplaces for Employee Appreciation, Professional Development, and Employee Well-Being.
“When options abound, women want to work for firms that appreciate their talents and give them opportunities to advance at a pace that fits with the rest of their lives. That’s why programs like the Accounting MOVE Project are so important to identify firms that have a history of women in leadership and offer flexible career options,” said Cindy Stanley, Executive Director of the Accounting and Financial Women’s Alliance.
The Accounting MOVE Project winners were recently honored at the 2023 AFWA’s annual Women Who Count conference. For more information on the project and to view a full list of honorees, visit the project webpage.

About the Accounting MOVE Project
Since 2010, the Accounting MOVE Project has measured and supported the advancement of women at accounting and consulting firms. MOVE is the only annual benchmarking project that both counts and advocates for women in the profession. The MOVE Project advisory board includes leaders from association partners the Accounting and Financial Women’s Alliance and founding sponsor Moss Adams. MOVE is made possible by support from its sponsors and by administrative fees paid by participating firms. Firms receive benchmarking reports based on the MOVE Project.
